'큐브 작가' 김보연

색유리 조각들이 장치된 만화경(漫畵鏡) 속을 들여다 보듯, 허구 같은 실상의 일면들이 삶의 알록진 현장들로 비쳐지는 것을 큐브 속에 담아낸다. 세상을 바라보는 우리의 경험과 인식이 큐브들 속에 빠져 마술 같은 상상력과 즐거운 경험을 만든다. 그 속에서 우리의 기억과 의식, 잠재의식들이 자유롭게 시간과 장소를 뛰어 넘으며 하나처럼 결합된다. 사각형 큐브들은 분할되었으면서도 통일된 이미지를 지녔고, 서로 분절 되었어도 하나로 결합된 온전한 세상을 그려낸다. 조각난 세상들 같지만 알고 보면 다 한 몸이고 한 세상이란 걸 느끼게 한다. 일상의 파편들이 투명한 사각형 큐브들 속에 다시 짜 맞추어져 색다른 전체를 이루고, 예기치 못한 경험들의 기억이 오밀 조밀한 사각형 그물망에 새겨져 일상의 강물처럼 오늘을 흐른다. “(기억 속의) 시간을 되돌리고 싶은 마음”과 “(추억 속의) 사물을 만져보고 싶은 마음”을 낯설지 않게 예술적 재치로 표현했다. 큐브 한 덩어리 한 덩어리가 차가운 얼음처럼 우리의 기억과 시간 속의 이미지들을 그대로 얼려 시간을 비끄러 매 놓고, 그 투명 입방체들 속에 정지된 기억의 바다를 투시해 보게 하는 것이 예술적 기지이다. 사각형 큐브들 속에서 기억의 강과 시간의 강물이 합류하여 하나가 되고, 과거에 보았던 것과 앞으로도 볼 것들이 선명하게 포개진다. 그것이 우리의 진짜 세상을 담은 큐브 속의 초현실인 것이다.

Looking into a kaleidoscope with fragments of colored glass arranged inside, the seemingly fictional aspects of reality reflect the vibrant scenes of life within cubes. Our experiences and perceptions of the world become immersed in these cubes, creating magical imagination and delightful encounters. Within them, our memories, consciousness, and subconsciousness freely transcend time and place, merging as one. The square cubes, though divided, present a unified image, portraying a whole world even when fragmented. They may seem like pieces of a shattered world, but in reality, they are all part of one body, one universe. Fragments of everyday life are rearranged within transparent square cubes, forming a unique whole, while memories of unexpected experiences are delicately engraved into a mesh of squares, flowing through the present like a river of daily life. The work expresses the familiar longing to “turn back time” or “touch objects from memory” with artistic wit. Each cube, like a block of cold ice, freezes images from our memories and moments in time, allowing us to peer into a sea of frozen memories within these transparent cubes. The merging streams of memory and time flow into one within the squares, where past views and future visions overlap vividly. This becomes a surreal reality encapsulated in the cubes, containing our true world.
